Note Cards In.

Okay guys, the cards are IN.

I'm super pumped...but nervous that people are gonna think I am a total freak/weirdo.
John 16:33
I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

8.5.11

Basically, I was unaware of the mailing system and that they do not work on saturdays....(Lord give me the patience to not call the business card place and say that their 3 day business card advertisement is LIES).  So, I get my cards on Monday. I've been continuing my "homeless of NY" project. The responses have been nothing but graciousness and filled with kindness, and I'm pleased that it is going smoothly...
Recently, I met some especially lovely gentlemen named Robbie and Charlie...Though he prefers to go by his full name Charlie Bernstein (love the classy full name introduction). They were two joyful best friends who sit on the same 3 ft. tall brick wall "seven days a week, morn to 7:30", they were quite characters and the kindness that they showed not only to me but also to each other was beautiful. After initially meeting them I went to class, and then afterwards wrote them a little note before going to get some dinner and ice cream bars for them.... in the note there are a couple of my favorite verses at the moment...

I hope it will bring them comfort during these hard times and circumstances they're faced with.

8.3.11

TODAY, as I promised I would I set out to find the lady whom I had passed many times on my way to frozen yogurt. On my way there, I stopped at K-Mart and picked up; capri suns, chewy granola bars, Hershey chocolate bars, and crackers. I walked around my area in which I knew I had seen homeless individuals. I met a lot of people with beautiful souls and minds behind there face that was filled with sadness as I would walk up to them. I met...
Robert
Tammy
Andrew
Jerome
Lew
Arminio
Cindy
Paul
All of which I throughly enjoyed meeting. Especially Jerome who's like the coolest guy ever.
After accepting the snacks that I hesitantly offered, scared that I was going to offend him, I introduced myself shook hands with him, and the biggest personality came bursting out of him!
We talked about how I wanted to be a forensic anthropologist, which proceeded to him begging for my autograph since he seemed to think I was going to be famous one day.... naturally I didn't hesitate to accept that offer. He had more joy in him than anyone else I have ever met in New York. We even snapped a digi-pic on my cell. I explained to him my "mission" and this blog. And he thought it was a beautiful thing I was doing. Which I appreciated greatly. I pray that I made his day.
Everyone except for Arminio, who couldn't speak well and got increasing frustrated when I couldn't understand him, was overjoyed by this simple act, and said that I made their day better. Which was my goal.
Here's the digi-pic that I took of me and Jerome... he's so awesome.

So, I'd say that this was a sucessfull start to a beautiful project...
Today I got:
3 "fistbumps"
1 hug
6 hand shakings
3 kisses on the hand
and
8 smiles

Here's My CARD.

My Weapon of Choice.

MY MISSION.

Hi, I'm Alie. I'm from Boulder, but this project is going to be beginning in New York.
My plan is to encourage others.
Simple enough. But, actually not. My hope is that I can give people even the smallest glimpse of the Lord.
And I want to do so, by making total strangers, have a better day. After all, everyone deserves a couple kind words to make their day brighter. Now, at this point you're probably wondering "how the dump are you going to do this without walking up to people and creeping them out?". Well, thankfully the solution to this was given to me by the Lord... I'm going to "make LOVE, my business".
By this I mean I am going to hand out business cards to people who I believe deserve to have a better day.
Of course everyone deserves to have a brighter day...but unfortunately being an unemployed 16 year old, the possibility of me being about to afford a couple billion business cards...is slim.

IF YOU RECEIVED A CARD...
I would absolutely adore if you gave me feedback, as to if your day was brightened in any way shape or form....if you wanna join this project email me at alieandchapstick@gmail.com

Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Basics of Humanity

When entering a new environment, such as a new school, class, program, city... it is only natural for you to want to get to know people. But, what about the people who you see everyday? The custodian of your school? The homeless person that you pass on your way to class? The person who makes your burrito at Chipotle? Why don't you know those people? I was thinking about this this morning because I am the type of person who goes to the same restaurants, takes the same routes to different places, and is just very consistent (or OCD) about my day-to-day activities.
More specifically, I was thinking about a lady that I pass every time I go to my frozen yogurt shop. I put SO much effort in getting to know the kids in my classes, and yet I see her twice everyday, and I don't even know her name. If all of us are created equally and with love by the Lord, why is it that I'm drawn to some and don't acknowledge others?
My plan for today, is to get to know her. Though I totally recognize that she may think it's odd that someone that she sees everyday just decides one morning to strike up a conversation... I hope she will be open to getting to know me.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
